We vliegen over Parijs.
Princes’ Island.
The Princes’ Islands are a combination of nine islands off the Asian coast of Istanbul, in the Sea of Marmara. The name of the islands comes from the Byzantine period, when royal princes and empresses were exiled there. The islands became a favorite destination for day trips in the early 19th century, when people fled the heat of the city to relax on its shores and in the forests. Nowadays, people still come here to enjoy the quiet (motorized vehicles are not permitted on the islands) and see historic architecture.
We will take a ferry to Büyükada island, the largest and most famous of the islands. We will start at the beach. You’ll have the option to stay on the beach, rent a bike for 15 TL or go on a guided tour. There are few beautiful churches on the island and a forest on the southern end. Bring sun screen and a bathing suit!
Historical Peninsula Istanbul has a rich and varied past. Want to see for yourself the endurance of Roman architecture? Want a sneak peek at the opulence of the Byzantine and Ottoman courts? Or visit some of the most beautiful religious buildings in Europe? The historical peninsula will give you a great overview of all that has gone before.
You’ll start with a visit of the famous Blue Mosque and Haghia Sophia, located opposite each other on the peninsula. We will then move on to the Grand Bazaar where you can experience all the tastes and smells of the Orient as well as get every
imaginable product for reasonable prices if you haggle long enough. We will end the tour with a visit to the Topkap Palace from which the sultans ruled the Ottoman Empire for almost 400 years.
The tours will be short and provide you with an idea of the whereabouts of each sight. Entrance is optional. The entrance fees for Haghia Sophia and Topkap Palace are about 20 TL each. Visits to the Blue Mosque and Grand Bazaar are free.
ORTAKOY- DOLMABAHCE- TAKSIM
If you want to experience Istanbul’s cosmopolitan and multicultural side, Ortakoy is the best place to go. Ortakoy, or middle village, is a neighborhood located in the middle of the European side of the Bosporus. It housed Turks, Greeks, Armenians and Jews in the Ottoman era and early days of the Turkish republic. You can find lots of art galleries, restaurants and cafés along the shopping streets and rows of embassies. Its architecture is a mixed bag of European and Ottoman styles, particularly visible in the manors on the Bosphorus.
The Dolmabahçe Palace was built in the 19th century and became the home of the Sultan’s family when they moved out of the Topkap Palace. Taksim square is the main hub of the neighborhood and indeed of much of Istanbul. It has seen many historic demonstrations and celebrations. It is the end point of a main pedestrian street with lots of shops and eateries.
We will start at the Ortakoy bazaar for sightseeing and shopping. You can choose to go on a beautiful bout trip of the Bosporus for 8-12 TL. The Dolmabahce Palace is the next stop; we will have lunch there and then move on to Taksim Square and the Istiklal Street, a local favorite for cafes and restaurants.
